The new spider-man costume

I just finished reading “The Other” 12-part Spider-Man crossover and I just have just 3 words to say:

WHAT THE ….???

I’m probably the biggest JMS fan on the planet, but MESSING WITH THE COSTUME WHICH SPIDEY HAS WORN FOR 40+ YEARS IS JUST WRONG WRONG WRONG WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG.

So wrong. It just looks shit-house.

OK… some searching of the blog-o-sphere has revealed this:

Between the physical changes to Peter that follow the aftermath of The Other, he gets a second power upgrade courtesy of the ‘Iron Spider’ suit from Stark. What he will discover is that with great power comes not just responsibility but one heck of a price tag. Peter will have to decide if he can pay that price in loyalty to Tony, when the loyalty may cost him things he holds dearest. He will find himself caught in the middle of the Civil War, seeing all sides of the argument, but will be eventually forced to make a decision that will change both his life and the whole Marvel Universes.

So, I’m ASSUMING this “decision” will be a giant reset-button.  He’ll ask Mary-Jane to darn the holes in his old suit and throw that stupid Iron Man rip-off in the trash.

And whats with the new powers?  “ooo, I can see in the dark.”  SAY WHAT??

Dammit, I’m cranky now, I’m going to bed.

    I’m actually a bit intrigued by both the new powers and new suit. I’m not sure how long either will last, but they present interesting writing opportunities. These combined with the impending Civil War spell a huge shake-up.

    Of course we all have fear that they’ll do a terrible job like the clone era, but I have more faith in the current leadership at Marvel than that…

    In other words, I say wait and see, this could be rock. (Don’t you look back at least somewhat findly on the black suit?!?)

    Yeah, if anything JMS is making sure Spidey isn’t going to get dull anytime soon. Unfortunately in my rage I dug a bit too deep and I think I’ve a fair idea whats going to happen with the Civil War arc. Its very cool (if I’m right).

    What did you think of they way they explained their way out of forgetting MJ had a broken arm? :)
