You like Spicy??

January 31st, 2008 No comments

My chilli bush has kinda gone nuts this summer. It had to be “taken care of” so I just cut most of it out, then picked out the juciest and nicest looking chillies (only about 1 out of 4, I chucked the rest) and now I have a whole lotta Chillie!!

Bush Chopped
Picked Lunchbox

What shall I do with them?? :)

p.s. No, I don’t want to talk about it!

Thailand Trip

January 28th, 2008 No comments

We’re back from Thailand. I really love going there. Even though it’s getting more and more “touristy” and aimed at westerners, you can’t blame them. Tourism is bringing so much money into the country it’s just not possible to stop the development.

We didn’t like Phuket very much so we went to Phi Phi and fell in love with the place. It has some great beaches, isn’t “too touristy” (nothing like Phuket) and you can get away from it all via a quick trip in a long tail if you want to. We stayed there for 5 nights and then journeyed across the mainland to Ko Samui.

Samui was like I remembered it… lots of resorts and older-type tourists. We had a great room though right on the beach at Hat Lamai, but we gave it up to spend a couple of nights on Bottle Beach (at Ko Phangan). It’s so secluded (you can’t get there by road) and there are no shops, no hawkers, no jet skis, no distractions. One of my favorite places… and we had a bungalow with a view of the beach all to ourselves for just 400 Baht a night (about $16 AUD).

The food was just as good as I remembered too. Sticking to my tradition when visiting other countries I ate nothing but Thai food. Lots of Greens and Panangs… I even had a Jungle Curry but it wasn’t what I expected (still very hot though!)

We took lots of photos, I’ll upload some soon. For now I must retire to bed… work tomorrow. :(

We just got back from a couple of nights on Bottle Beach, I still love that place. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Tomorrow we head back to Phuket to prepare for our flight home.

Melissa and I are currently in Patong, Phuket. Just waiting for a pick-up, today we are heading out to Phi Phi for snokelling and general chilling on the beach. Its quite hot here, but not too hot.

We’ve already sampled a fair bit of the local culture. :)

Off for a bit

January 11th, 2008 No comments

So much for my new years resolution for keeping up with my blog posts.. So far all I’ve managed to do is rant about cricket!

Anyhoo, I’m off for a couple of weeks holiday. Hopefully I’ll be able to forget about the cricket while I’m lying on the beach reading my book…. might take a radio just in case tho’ ;)

BCCI Bullies

January 8th, 2008 1 comment

I promised myself I was going to stop reading the news and leave this alone but its really pissing me off at the moment and I can’t. After what happened today, I’ve realised the BCCI is now bigger than the game.

Just because India reels in 70% of the world’s cricket revenue, they appear to have the ICC over a barrel.

I was always taught the best way to deal with bullies was to either ignore them, or punch them in the nose.

So, instead of ignoring the BCCI’s “demands” as they so aptly put, or telling them to “PISS OFF”, the ICC has:

* Dropped Bucknor (the most experienced umpire in the game).
* Allowed Harbijan to play the remaining 2 tests.

What next? Seems like nothing is ever India’s fault. They capitulate at the end of a test match and it everybody’s fault but theirs. Excuses so far: “Australia Cheated!” “All 3 umpires are corrupt!” “Australia aren’t playing within the spirit of the game!” “Ricky Ponting celebrated an amazing victory, we didn’t think that was very nice!” WAH WAH WAH!! Grow up!

Everybody loses matches because of bad calls, it even happens to Australia. But instead of getting on with it and using the loss as motivation to bring their best game to Perth, they cried foul, had a sulk in the team bus, and then threatened to go home.

And instead of letting them…. the ICC has given the Indian’s everything they wanted! India even know their little tantrum got them their way, read the Indian media. Its disgusting.

If it were up to me, I’d have let them go home. This isn’t the first time India has gone apeshit because a match didn’t go their way, seems they’ll burn effigies and paint donkeys at the drop of a hat these days. If they go home after every series that they don’t win in 10 years they’ll have no-one left to play with.

Looking forward to it.

Side-note: Yesterday’s post attracted some delightful comments from Indian supporters. Profanity-laiden non-sensical rubbish in ALL CAPS will not get approved on this blog.
